How to remove a background for product photos (and what buyers expect)
A clean background is the single biggest upgrade you can make to a product photo. It removes distraction, keeps your catalogue consistent and meets the rules of most marketplaces.
Start with the best source you can. Even light, a sharp subject and a background that contrasts with the product give an AI cut-out the cleanest edges. Shoot a little wider than you need so nothing is clipped.
Most marketplaces want a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255), the product filling about 85% of the frame, and a square canvas of at least 1000 px. That is exactly what the Marketplace listing recipe produces in one click: it removes the background, pads to a 1600 × 1600 square and fills with white.
For editing a whole catalogue, use batch mode. Upload up to 20 photos, apply one tool to all of them and download a ZIP. Review every result at full size: reflective or transparent products such as glass are the hardest cases and sometimes need a retake.
Finally, keep your originals. Non-destructive editing means you can redo a cut-out later, and version history lets you roll back if a result isn't right.
